Project 005 Description:This student will contribute to the advancement of bio-inspired robotics for space exploration by utilizing CAD tools to refine the amoebot’s body and
structure, focusing on designs optimized for the rigors of extraterrestrial environments. Through rapid prototyping with 3D printing, they will iteratively
develop and test structural components, ensuring the robot’s resilience and adaptability. Furthermore, the student will gain practical experience in PCB
design, crucial for integrating the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) with the artificial muscle actuators, a critical step in developing robust and reliable robotic
systems for future NASA missions. In the project’s second phase, the student will focus on developing and implementing AI algorithms for autonomous
operation, directly contributing to NASA’s goal of enhancing robotic autonomy for extended exploratory missions. We expect the student to work 20h per
week in this project.
