Project 001 Description: An undergraduate student will join an ongoing research program to measure the compositions of Near Earth Asteroids. The data for this program is collected through dedicated (institutional) access to the UKIRT facility in Hawai‘i. Near infrared spectrophotometry (zJHK) is used, in combination with machine learning approaches, to measure probabilistic compositions through comparisons with a training sample (in hand). The student will also constrain the mean shape of this population of asteroids through modeling the ensemble of partial lightcurves.
