MSG Brion Baker assumed duties as the Senior Military Science Instructor of Northern Arizona University (NAU) Army ROTC on 10JUN24
MSG Baker is a native of Magdalena, New Mexico. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2002 as a 13B Field Artilleryman, and later in 2008 reclassified to become a 19D Cavalry Scout. He is currently a 19Z Senior Armor Sergeant and a student in the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (USASMA) Distance Learning Class 51.
MSG Baker’s military education includes all levels of NCOES from BLC to MLC, Battle Staff NCO, The Cold Weather Leaders Course, SHARP Course, Master Fitness Course, Master Resilience Trainer Course, and the Cold Weather Leaders Course. MSG Bakers functional training includes Army Reconnaissance Course, Cav Leaders Course, Airborne, Air-Assault, Pathfinder, FRIES/SPIES, Jumpmaster, Sniper, and Ranger Schools.
MSG Baker’s previous assignments include G33 Operations NCO / 11th ABN DIV, JBER AK; Troop 1SG 1-40 CAV, JBER AK; Technical Advisor / AFC Ft. Moore, GA; Platoon Sergeant / 1-40 CAV, JBER AK; ALC/BLC Instructor, Ft. Moore, GA; Section Sergeant / Sniper Section Leader, 1-91 CAV, Schweinfurt, GE; Howitzer Section Chief / 5-82 FA, Ft. Bliss, TX; Howitzer Gunner / 2-3 FA, Giessen, GE.
MSG Baker deployed in support of combat operations for a total of 52 months between OIF I (Baghdad, Iraq / 1st Armored DIV), OIF V (Mosul, Iraq / 1ST Cav DIV), OEF X (Logar, Afghanistan / 173rd ABN BCT), and OEF XVII (Logar, Afghanistan / 4-25 IBCT ABN)
MSG Baker’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (4th award), Army Commendation Medal (7th award), Army Achievement Medal (3rd award), Good Conduct Medal (6th award), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (three bronze stars), Iraq Campaign Medal (two bronze stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (4th award), Overseas Service ribbon (5th award), and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal (2nd award), Drivers Badge (wheel), Combat Action Badge, Ranger Tab, Airborne Badge (Senior rated), Air-Assault Badge, Pathfinder Badge, and the Basic Instructor Badge.
MSG Baker is married to Evonne Baker and they have three children, Anessa (18), Jade (12), and Cody (3).
