Classes
MS I (freshman year)
MS101 Basic Military Science
(1 Credit) This class introduces U.S. Army roles, history, and organization and basic officer competencies. Students also learn basic fitness, interpersonal communications, values, ethics, unique duties, and responsibilities of an officer.
MS102 Basic Leadership
(1 credit) This class introduces a general model of problem solving and teaches the basic skills underlying effective problem solving. It also introduces fundamental leadership concepts and examines factors that influence leader and group effectiveness.
MS130/131 Leadership Lab
(1 credit each semester) This class develops leadership abilities through practical application and challenging outdoor activities. Leadership lab is held on Thursdays from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
MS150/151 Army Physical Fitness
(1 credit each semester)
MS II (sophomore year)
MS201 Leadership and Teamwork
(2 credits) This class introduces principles and techniques of effective written and oral communication. It also teaches practical leader skills and examines principles of subordinate motivation and organizational change. Students can also expect to apply leadership and problem-solving principles to case studies.
MS202 Tactics and Officership
(2 credits) This class introduces basic tactical principles, examines roots of Army values, and applies principles of ethical decision making. Students examine the foundations, duties, and functions of Army officers and analyze officer roles in transition of the Army from Vietnam to the contemporary operating environment.
MS230/231 Leadership Lab
(1 credit each semester) This class develops leadership abilities through practical application and challenging outdoor activities. Leadership lab is held on Thursdays from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
MS250/251 Army Physical Fitness
(1 credit each semester)
MS III (junior year)
MS301 Leadership and Problem Solving
(3 credits) Students learn about the theory, organization, and dynamics of a combined arms team in combat operations. They will also learn about small unit offensive tactics and techniques, fire support systems and organic weapons of ground-gaining arms, with a focus on leadership, management, and training techniques.
MS302 Leading Small Organizations
(3 credits) Continuation of MS 301 with an emphasis on preparation for the Leadership Development Assessment Course (LDAC)
MS IV (senior year)
MS401 Leadership and Management
(3 credits) Students learn about the U.S. Army legal system, career planning, post and installation support, personal affairs management, written and oral communication, military professional ethics, the Army logistics system, and command and staff functions.
MS402 Transition to Lieutenant
(3 credits) Students learn about U.S. Army training management, military justice, the U.S. Army personnel system, leadership, and written and oral communication while preparing for commissioning.
