WHAT\/WHY<\/strong>: The NAU Yuma Bachelor of Arts in Social Work (BASW) Program honors current graduates and welcomes incoming students at its 2018 community potluck, where the CSWE grants accreditation and delivers the keynote address. The BASW program has contributed over $1 million in service learning, community change projects, and community engaged research projects. It is the only accredited social work program in the nation that focuses on US Mexico border issues and populations, and was the recipient of the 2017 Rodney Mather Service Learning Award for its human trafficking project. Twenty-eight BASW students have presented scholarly research papers at international and national conferences. The program recently completed a team teaching project with UABC Guadalupe Victoria and is currently conducting collaborative research on the relationship between social media and staph infection.
