{"id":5354,"date":"2018-11-28T14:12:54","date_gmt":"2018-11-28T21:12:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nau.edu\/university-policy-library\/?page_id=5354"},"modified":"2023-06-06T09:26:12","modified_gmt":"2023-06-06T16:26:12","slug":"hr_2-02","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/university-policy-library\/hr_2-02\/","title":{"rendered":"Compensation Practices"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>Human Resources<\/h5>\n<h3>2.02\u00a0Compensation Practices<\/h3>\n<p>This policy outlines pay change options and communicates criteria for establishing pay rates.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Origination Date: <\/strong>10\/1\/93<br \/>\n<strong>Revised: <\/strong>12\/22\/1999, 1\/1\/2000<br \/>\n<strong>Applicability: <\/strong>Classified Staff and Service Professionals<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Pay Rate Changes<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><b>Legislated Pay Raises:<\/b> certain salary changes may occur through state appropriations including not limited to general adjustments, merit pay adjustments, and market pay adjustments. Salary adjustment eligibility is based on legislation as well as university procedures.\u00a0Employees paid from sources of funds other than state appropriations (grant or local accounts) are generally eligible for the same legislated pay raises subject to availability of funds.\u00a0The awarding of pay increases is not subject to employee grievance procedures.<\/p>\n<p><b>Northern<\/b><b> Arizona University<\/b><b> Initiated Pay Raises:<\/b> employee salaries may be increased through a reclassification or a salary adjustment (a salary within the same job classification).\u00a0Reasons for such adjustments may include, but are not limited to, assignment of additional responsibilities (career progression), market indicators, or equity.\u00a0For Classified Staff and Service Professionals, the Human Resources Department will determine appropriate salary increase amounts.<\/p>\n<h5>Establishing Pay Rates<\/h5>\n<p><b>New hire pay rates: <\/b>the hiring department will establish hiring pay rates with input from the Human Resources Department.
