{"id":4990,"date":"2018-10-02T10:15:29","date_gmt":"2018-10-02T17:15:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nau.edu\/university-policy-library\/?page_id=4990"},"modified":"2023-08-14T09:21:33","modified_gmt":"2023-08-14T16:21:33","slug":"hr_1-03","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/university-policy-library\/hr_1-03\/","title":{"rendered":"Employment of Aliens"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>Human Resources<\/h5>\n<h3>1.03 Employment of Aliens<\/h3>\n<p>This policy describes the University&#8217;s obligations under federal and state law regarding the employment of aliens and outlines an alien employee&#8217;s responsibility to demonstrate their legal eligibility to work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Origination date<\/strong>: 10\/1\/93<br \/>\n<strong>Revised<\/strong>: 12\/22\/1999, 1\/1\/2000<br \/>\n<strong>Applicability<\/strong>: All Employees<\/p>\n<p>All University employees must be either citizens of the United States or persons legally authorized to work in the United States. Notwithstanding any other provision of University Policy to the contrary, an alien employee whose visa has expired or who is otherwise no longer legally permitted to work at the University may be terminated without other cause or notice.<\/p>\n<h5>Immigration Reform and Control Act<\/h5>\n<p>As mandated by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, all University employees are required to provide proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States.\u00a0This documentation must be provided either prior to commencing work or on the first day of employment.\u00a0Failure to provide the required documentation may result in termination.
