Status"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>Human Resources<\/h5>\n<h3>1.01 Probationary Status<\/h3>\n<p>This policy clarifies probationary employment requirements for classified staff positions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Origination Date: <\/strong>10\/1\/93<br \/>\n<strong>Revised: <\/strong>12\/22\/1999, 1\/1\/2000<br \/>\n<strong>Applicability: <\/strong>Classified Staff<\/p>\n<p>All new classified staff employees are hired on a provisional basis and must serve in a probationary capacity for the first six months of their employment.<\/p>\n<p>In accordance with Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) requirements, newly hired police officers are required to serve in a probationary capacity for one year.<\/p>\n<p>An employee may be terminated at the discretion of the University at any time during the employee&#8217;s probationary period.\u00a0An employee serving the initial probationary period is not entitled to appeal or grievance rights in the event of termination of employment.\u00a0Further, a probationary employee may not access the University&#8217;s employment appeal or grievance procedures for other issues relating to employment.<\/p>\n<p>Probationary employee supervisors are required to evaluate the employee&#8217;s performance during the employee\u2019s probationary period and complete at least one performance appraisal form within 30 calendar days prior to its conclusion (see HR Policy 5.02 Performance Appraisal for more information).<\/p>\n<p>The initial probationary period for classified staff is served only once during any term of continuous employment with the University.<\/p>\n<p>When a temporary employee moves to a regular position within the University, they must complete a six-month probationary period beginning from the regular position\u2019s new hire date.<\/p>\n<p>If an employee transfers or changes positions during their probationary period, the employee must complete the six-month probationary period that began on their initial position\u2019s new hire date.<\/p>\n<p>An individual who leaves the University and is subsequently rehired must complete a new six-month probationary period.<\/p>\n<p>An employee who is reclassified in their current position is not subject to a new probationary period.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<!-- shortcode-right-column
