Join Upward Bound Math Science<\/h1>\n

Upward Bound Math Science staff recruit students in 9th and 10th grades. The application period usually is open starting in September and closing by the end of December. After applying, students and family will be notified of selection decisions in January or sooner.<\/p>\n
Newly accepted students are required to participate in a 5-week Summer Academy on the mountain campus of Northern Arizona University held from June to July, as well as attend an orientation and program welcome.<\/p>\n\n

A student must meet the following criteria:<\/h4>\n
\n
Income eligible<\/a> and\/or potential first-generation college student (neither parent have a four-year bachelor’s degree)<\/li>\n
Have a 3.0 grade point average (GPA)<\/li>\n
Interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) careers<\/li>\n
Current high school freshman or sophomore attending one of our “target” schools:\n

Coconino High School<\/li>\n
Holbrook High School<\/li>\n
Many Farms High School<\/li>\n
Monument Valley High School<\/li>\n
Tuba City High School<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Annually, there are approximately 20-25 positions to be filled due to graduating seniors. When we have many great applicants, we will create a waitlist in case a student decides not to participate in UBMS. Applications will be scored based on eligibility, grades, teacher recommendations, level of commitment to the program, and their essay.<\/p>\n
The ONLINE application will allow students\/parents the following:<\/p>\n

The online applications are encrypted\/secure and Submit directly to UBMS<\/li>\n
Applicants can SAVE and RETURN to their application at any time prior to SUBMITTING – helpful for working on your essay and\/or collecting parent financial information<\/li>\n
All required forms can easily be attached<\/li>\n
Applicants can provide email addresses for the teachers they want recommendations from, and those forms will be automatically emailed to the teachers<\/li>\n
Teachers receiving the Recommendation emails can complete their evaluations and those forms automatically submit to UBMS<\/li>\n
Applications can be completed on smartphones, laptops or desktop computers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
