Traustadóttir Lab

We study redox biology, aging, and exercise

Research focus

The research goals in the Traustadóttir Lab are to determine:

    • The mechanisms of diminished resistance to oxidative stress with aging and plasticity of redox signaling pathways.
    • The efficacy of interventions such as exercise and phytonutrients in preventing or attenuating these age-related changes in redox signaling.
    • The effects of different exercise protocols (modes, intensity, volume) on redox signaling and resistance to oxidative stress.

We use acute exercise to stimulate changes in redox balance

We use forearm ischemia-reperfusion to assess resistance to oxidative stress

Samples are analyzed for gene expression, protein content, enzyme activity, lipid peroxidation, and other markers
