The\u00a0 Teaching and Learning Center, Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity, Cline Library Research Librarians, and the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies have partnered to bring the nationally recognized Entering Mentoring<\/em><\/strong> training to NAU. Cohorts are forming for Fall 2025 and Spring 2026.<\/p>\n Entering Mentoring is an evidence-based, interactive mentor training curriculum that engages mentors in collective problem-solving and connects them with resources to optimize their mentoring practices. Mentors engage in learning communities through nine modules that include activities, assignments, case studies, and facilitated discussions to solve mentoring dilemmas and share successful mentorship strategies.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Entering Mentoring is designed for faculty, graduate students, and administrators who are committed to the mentorship of undergraduate and graduate research students.<\/strong> Each cohort is led by a team of NAU colleagues who are CIMER-trained facilitators (The C<\/strong>enter for the I<\/strong>mprovement of M<\/strong>entored E<\/strong>xperiences in R<\/strong>esearch). Participants are expected to attend all sessions scheduled for their cohort.<\/p>\n\n The Entering Mentoring approach provides mentors with an intellectual framework, an opportunity to experiment with various methods, and a forum in which to solve mentoring dilemmas with the help of their peers. The mentor-training process expands each mentor’s knowledge through secondhand exposure to the experiences of the entire group, enabling participants to engage with as many mentoring experiences as each of them would typically handle in a decade. This process in turn enhances their readiness to work with diverse mentees and anticipate new situations. After completing the training, mentors will have articulated their own approach to mentoring and have a toolbox of strategies to draw upon when confronted with mentoring challenges.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n Effective May 20, 2024, all NSF grant applications require a mentoring plan for postdoctoral scholars and graduate students supported by the award.
