Productive Beginnings: Resources for Your First Year
A series for new faculty
This monthly series is designed to assist new faculty throughout the first year at NAU. This series is designed for faculty members new to teaching at NAU and is by invitation only. Topics vary each month. This series meets monthly on Fridays in Cline Library Room 169 and remotely via Zoom. By invitation only.
*The 22-23 New Faculty cohort will be sent an invitation to join Productive Beginnings.
Beyond Year One: A series for faculty in years 2 – 5 Accordion Closed
This faculty series focuses on and addresses the specific needs of faculty in their first 5 years at NAU. This series meets twice a semester on Fridays.
Fall 2022: 9/23/2022 and 10/28/2022
Spring 2023: 2/3/23 and 4/7/23
Fridays from 1:30 to 3:00 pm in Cline 169 and the TLC Zoom.
Book Discussions Accordion Closed
Our book discussions gather a group of faculty members to read a book about students, pedagogy, or other relevant topics then discuss their learning with other faculty across campus. Book discussions are generally 1 hour in length and meet every other week for a semester. Book discussions close after the first meeting. Books are provided to the first 10 participants. Watch for the Teaching & Learning Center emails at the beginning of each semester to see the list of book discussions available and to register. FAAR Retreat and Open Lab Accordion Closed
Join experienced faculty for FAAR (Faculty Activity and Achievement Reporting) / Faculty 180 question and answer, or use the time to make updates in the system to be ready for the next evaluation process. The FAAR Retreats meet in Cline 169 and remotely via Zoom.

This series is designed to assist faculty to enhance their teaching and student engagement through the use of technology. This series is for all faculty members at NAU.
Faculty Mentor Program Accordion Closed
This program fosters purposeful matches between faculty members. Each faculty member requesting a mentor is paired with an experienced faculty member who shares her/his interests (usually from a different discipline). Purposeful, mutually enriching matches are made between faculty requesting mentoring and their experienced faculty mentors at the beginning of the fall semester or as requested during the year.

The Monday Morning Mentor Weekly Webinar Accordion Closed
The 20-minute Monday Morning Mentor weekly webinar series is presented by respected academic peers, covers timely and relevant topics, and provides practical information. Each webinar is a critical topic that affects the higher education landscape and is effectively and efficiently covered. Topics include assessment and learning goals, classroom management, student engagement, teaching and learning, teaching online, and others.

Interdisciplinary Writing Program Certificate Accordion Closed
Purpose of the Certificate
The Teaching & Learning Center and the Interdisciplinary Writing Program are pleased to offer a certificate in Effective Writing Instruction. Faculty and GTAs from all disciplines who currently incorporate writing activities and assignments into their courses or who are interested in incorporating writing into their courses are encouraged to participate in this certificate program.
To complete the certificate, faculty must attend one multiple meeting session (book discussion, workshop series) and three additional sessions, as well as complete a consultation with the Interdisciplinary Writing Program Director to discuss the writing curriculum in your course(s). Sessions will address a variety of topics, such as strategies for efficient grading, preventing plagiarism, developing engaging writing assignments, incorporating writing into large classes, writing in the disciplines/disciplinary writing conventions, and writing for digital platforms. GTA Professional Development Series Accordion Closed
This series is designed specifically for Graduate Teaching Assistants dedicated to enhancing their teaching and student learning. AY 22-23 Learning Communities
Teaching the Big Classes: Large Enrollment Courses
This learning community brings together faculty teaching large-enrollment courses to share ideas and effective practices. This group meets monthly in Cline Library Room 169 and remotely via Zoom. No membership is required, come for one meeting or all.
Colleague-to-Colleague Mentoring Programs
The focus of this learning community is on starting or improving existing colleague-to-colleague mentor programs. We welcome those with experience in mentoring work as well as those who are just getting started. The group is especially beneficial for anyone who has been tasked with leading a colleague-to-colleague mentoring program in their unit. Note that this group does not focus on mentoring undergraduate or graduate students at this time.

This learning community serves the participants of EITS.
Universal Design for Learning Faculty Learning Community Accordion Closed
This faculty learning community brings together faculty members who have foundational knowledge or are actively implementing principles of universal design of learning (UDL) to share ideas and best practices.
