While good teaching looks different across the disciplines, general principles of effective practice are universal. Broad implementation of these practices is essential to achieving our goals of <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/president\/strategic-plan\/#dynamic-link-10\"><strong>Academic Excellence<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/president\/strategic-plan\/#dynamic-link-9\"><strong>Student Success<\/strong><\/a><a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>These<em> Practices for Teaching Effectiveness <\/em>at NAU provide a unified framework that can be used at all levels of the University to align practices and policies with the goal of advancing a culture of excellent teaching and shared responsibility for student momentum, persistence, achievement, and career readiness in the following ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Promote practices <\/strong>that keep <strong>students <\/strong>on a<strong> pathway to success<\/strong> through course completion and credit accrual while ensuring they succeed even if they get behind.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Position<\/strong> our <strong>students <\/strong>for<strong> post-graduation success<\/strong> by offering a broad portfolio of high-impact learning experiences and perspectives that are responsive to industry standards and societal needs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Inform<\/strong> community<strong> stakeholders of our commitment to high-quality teaching<\/strong> through active and timely communications.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Attract and retain faculty<\/strong> who are committed to academic excellence and student success.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Align current and future teaching-focused<\/strong> initiatives and support programs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Encourage<\/strong> faculty to <strong>adopt evidence-based teaching practices.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Provide<\/strong> <strong>guidelines<\/strong> for <strong>developing consistent evaluation of teaching criteria<\/strong> across units.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Promote<\/strong> <strong>equitable teaching <\/strong>policies and<\/li>\n<li><strong>Inform<\/strong> decisions related to <strong>teaching support resource allocation<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The three overlapping categories of Course <strong>DESIGN, <\/strong>Learning <strong>ENVIRONMENT,<\/strong> and Curriculum <strong>STRUCTURE <\/strong>encompass a practice of <strong>Inclusive Excellence <\/strong>to help all students learn and feel supported and welcome.<a
