{"id":3971,"date":"2022-03-16T20:24:03","date_gmt":"2022-03-16T20:24:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nau.edu\/boundless\/?p=3971"},"modified":"2022-03-16T23:07:57","modified_gmt":"2022-03-16T23:07:57","slug":"preserving-navajo-roots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/stories\/preserving-navajo-roots\/","title":{"rendered":"Student grounded by roots, community"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"is-style-leadIn\">Autumn Begay, \u201922, found her home away from home at NAU&#8217;s Native American Cultural Center (NACC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Autumn Begay, who majored in <a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/ais\/degrees-programs\/\">Applied Indigenous\nStudies<\/a> with minors in <a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/ccs\/undergraduate-programs\/minors\/museum-studies\/\">Museum\nStudies<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/anthropology\/anthropology-minor\/\">Anthropology<\/a>,\nbuilt a community at the NACC through mentoring students, connecting\nwith Indigenous scholars, and establishing lifelong friendships. Clubs\nand other extracurricular activities also helped the Navajo student\ndevelop a strong support network.
