<\/span><\/p>\nAs an initiative of the Center for Community Health and Engaged Research (CHER<\/a>), SHERC’s mission is to increase basic biomedical, clinical, and behavioral research at Northern Arizona University to advance health research in the southwestern United States.<\/span><\/p>\n SHERC works closely with community partners to expand capacity to address health disparities in chronic and infectious diseases, as well as high-priority behavioral health conditions, as determined by community partners.<\/p>\n We work with schools, hospitals, community-based organizations, federally qualified health centers, the U.S. Indian Health Service, tribal public health authorities, and tribal and border health programs in Arizona to develop biomedical, clinical, and behavioral interventions aimed at improving community health.<\/p>\n SHERC is a National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD<\/a>) Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI<\/a>) Program funded by\u00a0National Institutes of Health (NIH<\/a> #U54MD012388).<\/p>\n SHERC\u2019s five cores work independently and collaboratively to support researchers across NAU\u2019s statewide campuses.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n The Administrative Core<\/strong> ensures that research and career enhancement in the area of health continue to grow at NAU. The Administrative Core creates a framework for all the SHERC core components to work together efficiently and effectively, and continually and carefully monitors SHERC component activities to ensure that SHERC keeps its efforts focused on the goals of the program.<\/p>\n Learn more about the Administrative Core<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n <\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n \n The Investigator Development Core (IDC)<\/strong> supports the development of early-stage investigators in basic biomedical, behavioral, and\/or clinical sciences with a focus on translational and team science.<\/p>\n This goal is met through the Pilot Project Program and the Individualized Mentoring Program.<\/p>\n Learn more about the Investigator Development Core<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n <\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n \n The Community Engagement Core (CEC)<\/strong> cultivates and sustains productive collaborations and partnerships with community-based organizations and leaders in meaningful ways that foster awareness and participation in community health research in Arizona. Guided by a four direction framework and in collaboration with our CEC Advisory Council, the CEC aims to effect change through: dialogue, knowledge, action, and reflection.<\/p>\n Learn more about the Community Engagement Core<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n <\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n \n The Research Capacity Core<\/strong> supports research efforts university-wide through the Technical Assistance Group – Service Center<\/a>,<\/strong> methodological education workshop program, and infrastructure enhancement program.
