Northern Arizona University received emergency relief aid from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (HEERF) for student grants.\u00a0\u00a0 The university first distributed these funds in May, 2020 and continued doing so through Spring, 2022. If a student is eligible to receive the Lumberjack HEERF Grant, they will have the option to apply the grant funds to their student account balance or receive the funds directly. If a student applies the grant to their LOUIE account, any excess will be refunded via direct deposit or a paper check mailed to them as designated in their LOUIE information. In order to apply funds to a student account, the student must complete the Lumberjack HEERF Grant Account Authorization form.<\/p>\n

One section of the CARES Act established the Higher Education Emergency Relief fund, which affords the opportunity for NAU to provide emergency grants to students to help defray expenses related to COVID-19. There is additional funding for universities for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the pandemic.<\/p>\n The Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds II (HEERF II) established a second fund to allow NAU to award additional grant funds during the Spring, Summer, and Fall 2021 semesters. Additional HEERF funds were made available for the 2021-2022 academic year.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n NAU applied for funding from the federal U.S. Department of Education based on the guidelines in the CARES Act. We received $11.7 million in May, 2020.<\/p>\n NAU was allocated an additional $11.7 million under the Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds II (HEERF II) and $34.0 million under HEERF III for student grants.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n To become eligible for a Lumberjack HEERF II or III grant, the student must file a 2021-2022, Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) prior to each semester’s distribution date. The FASFA for this academic year can be completed here<\/a>. Please note that both the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 FASFAs are available, and either may be completed.<\/p>\n If the student prefers to have the grant funds applied to their student account, they must complete the Lumberjack Account Authorization form by the due date.<\/p>\n The student also must confirm that direct deposit information and mailing address in LOUIE are correct.
