This project is funded under Stage I of the competitive <a href=\"https:\/\/nsfcivicinnovation.org\/\">NSF CIVIC Innovation program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Vigil-Hayes\u2019 collaborative work quantifying the inaccuracies of mobile broadband coverage maps was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/features\/millions-of-americans-cant-get-broadband-because-of-a-faulty-fcc-map-theres-a-fix\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/features\/millions-of-americans-cant-get-broadband-because-of-a-faulty-fcc-map-theres-a-fix\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1614188075351000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHIOqT72x8CUhQ5VLkvmPo4fCo1Rg\">recently featured in CNET<\/a>. Inaccurate broadband mapping impacts Internet connectivity options and opportunities for millions of Americans. The forthcoming work (<a href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/2102.07288\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/2102.07288&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1614188075351000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEYpdh1K218q5OejfqdbmNapA349Q\">pre-published here<\/a>) examines mobile broadband coverage through the lens of multiple data sets and finds that inaccuracies in current maps are most likely to occur in rural and tribal areas.
