VMware Fellow Martin Casado Computer Science Scholarship<\/h1>\n

This is a significant scholarship designed to cover educational costs and can be awarded up to $35,000 per academic year.\u00a0 Because of this, the scholarship application process is more detailed and involved.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Majors:<\/strong> Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Applied Computer Science, and Software Engineering<\/p>\n

Award Criteria:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Full-time undergraduate student in major listed above<\/li>\n
  2. Intellectual merit and the potential to be tomorrow’s technical innovators<\/li>\n
  3. Financial need – FAFSA MUST be completed<\/li>\n
  4. Arizona resident – preferred<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    In addition to completing this online application form, this substantial scholarship requires submission of additional materials to support our detailed review process. Please submit the following materials in a single PDF document to\u00a0CEIAS@nau.edu<\/a> titled “VMware – (your name)”:<\/p>\n

    1) Unofficial Transcripts (after Fall 2023 grades are entered).\u00a0 If you are an incoming freshman, please submit a high school transcript.<\/p>\n

    2) Current resume<\/p>\n

    3) ACT & SAT scores (if not taken, please indicate that in your letter of interest)<\/p>\n

    4) A formal letter of interest (not to exceed 1000 words). Please include: your commitment and dedication to pursuing a career in your chosen field including your future career goals, information about yourself and why you selected NAU and your major, what area of computer science interests you the most, how this significant scholarship could help you, extracurricular activities and anything else you would like the committee to know about you and your educational endeavors.<\/p>\n

    5) Current NAU Financial Aid Award Letter (Log into LOUIE. Click on self-service > student center > view financial aid> current academic year) after completing this year’s FAFSA<\/a><\/p>\n

    In addition to the documents listed above, a referral form must be completed by at least one professional reference.     About the Scholarship <\/strong><\/h2>\n

    This generous scholarship was endowed to Northern Arizona University by the VMWare founder, Dr. Martin Casado. VMware is the leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure solutions that enable businesses to thrive in the Cloud Era. Dr. Casado started this fund to encourage students following in his academic footsteps at Northern Arizona University.<\/p>\n

    Dr. Casado joined VMware in August of 2012 with the acquisition of Nicira Networks, a company he co-founded. Dr. Casado co-founded software-defined networking and was recognized for the work by ACM with the Grace Murray Hopper award for the Outstanding Young Computer Professional of the Year for 2012-2013. While at Stanford, Dr. Casado co-founded Illuminics Systems, as IP analytics company, which was acquired by Quova Inc. in 2006. Prior to attending Stanford, Dr. Casado held a research position at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory where he worked on network security in the information operations assurance center (IOAC). Dr. Casado received his Masters in Science and PhD from Stanford University in Computer Science, and his Bachelor of Science from Northern Arizona University in Computer Science and Engineering.<\/p>\n
