NAU students have done internships and research projects all over the world. They have worked for cities, tribes, states, NGOs, and federal agencies, studying everything from pronghorn antelope to hazardous waste management. In terms of topics, you are only limited by your imagination.<\/p>\n
For help finding an internship or research project relevant to your interests, talk to professors in your emphasis or interest area (check out the faculty directory<\/a> or ask professors in your current classes for guidance), scroll down to see lists of updated internship opportunities and inspiration, or talk to the internship & research coordinator, Taylor Joyal<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n In ENV 408, you’ll combine theory and work experience in a non-academic setting—on or off-campus. You’ll be supervised on the job site. Internships must be at least 150 hours and have an environmental or sustainability focus.<\/strong> Talk to Taylor Joyal if you want confirmation on your internship choice before you apply.<\/p>\n ENV 408 will help:<\/p>\n In ENV 485, you’ll apply current research techniques to answer a question within your field. You’ll be supervised by a university professor, researcher, or professional in the field. You are allowed to work with professors outside of ENV (such as in FOR, BIO, COM, etc). <\/strong>Your research must have an environmental focus.<\/p>\n ENV 485 will help:<\/p>\n Need some help getting into research? Identify internship options using your own job searches or our list below, or identify research opportunities by talking to faculty members. Apply for an internship through an organization or request undergraduate research with a faculty member. Once you’re accepted\/approved, you can start the enrollment process.<\/p>\n Put together an internship (ENV 408) or research (ENV 485) project proposal that explains the internship\/research, the tasks you will perform, your learning goals, and a description of an independent project you will complete. You should establish what your proposal will be with help from your internship or research supervisor. Please reference the sample proposal on the right under “ENV 408 \/ 485 Files”<\/strong> as a guide as you write your proposal.<\/p>\n Once you\u2019re done, please\u00a0email\u00a0Taylor.Joyal@nau.edu<\/a>\u00a0your\u00a0project proposal\u00a0<\/strong>signed by your internship or research supervisor and complete both the enrollment <\/strong>and individualized study forms <\/strong>(found under “ENV 408\/485 Files”). Be sure to enter 3 credits on the enrollment form<\/span>. The three credits represent the required 150 hours of internship or research work. Dr. Joyal will reply with an enrollment code after he approves your proposal.<\/p>\n Once you have the permission code, you can add ENV 408\/485 to your shopping cart or schedule. Make sure that you select 3 credits when enrolling<\/span>, because otherwise LOUIE will automatically assign you 1 credit. Once you’re enrolled, you will have access to the Canvas course shell at the beginning of the semester or summer session where you can find the syllabus, due dates, upload sites for project reports and hourly logs, and examples of student reports and portfolios.
