{"id":16,"date":"2018-06-21T03:16:15","date_gmt":"2018-06-21T10:16:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vendor.hub.wp.nau.edu\/risk-management\/university-owned\/"},"modified":"2025-10-24T02:44:13","modified_gmt":"2025-10-24T02:44:13","slug":"university-owned","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/risk-management\/university-owned\/","title":{"rendered":"University-Owned Vehicles"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>University-Owned Vehicles<\/h1>\n<p><strong>Use of University-Owned Vehicles:<\/strong>\u00a0NAU employees shall be covered within the limitations of\u00a0<a title=\"A.R.S. \u00a741-621\" href=\"https:\/\/www.azleg.gov\/viewdocument\/?docName=https:\/\/www.azleg.gov\/ars\/41\/00621.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">A.R.S. \u00a741-621<\/a>, et seq., while driving a University-owned or non-State-owned vehicle in the course and scope of employment (\u201c<a title=\"Who is Covered\" href=\"https:\/\/staterisk.az.gov\/resources\/who-covered\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Who is Covered<\/a>\u201d from State Risk Management and\u00a0<a title=\"Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-107.A.1 through 3\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.azsos.gov\/public_services\/Title_02\/2-10.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-107.A.1 through 3<\/a>). \u00a0Each agency will ensure that anyone authorized to operate a University-owned vehicle or non- owned vehicle on University business, has a valid Arizona driver&#8217;s license. \u00a0Coverage shall be on a primary basis for University-owned vehicles and on an excess basis for non- owned vehicles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Volunteer Drivers:<\/strong>\u00a0Volunteers are those persons doing University work under the direction and control of University officials and are not being paid by anyone for these activities.\u00a0 Liability coverage is extended to \u2018registered\u2019 volunteers acting at the direction of University officials and within the course and scope of their State-authorized activities (<a title=\"Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-107.B\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.azsos.gov\/public_services\/Title_02\/2-10.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-107.B<\/a>\u00a0and \u201c<a title=\"Who Is Covered\" href=\"https:\/\/staterisk.az.gov\/resources\/who-covered\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Who Is Covered<\/a>\u201d from State Risk Management).\u00a0 Registered volunteers (agents of the University) are provided the same liability protection afforded University employees.\u00a0 Thus, registered volunteers acting within the course and scope of their State authorized activities would be covered for their liability exposure as agents of the State.<\/p>\n<p>To become a registered volunteer, the volunteer and his\/her NAU supervisor must complete and submit a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2020\/07\/Volunteer-Registration-Form-Final.docx\">Volunteer Registration Form<\/a>\u00a0to Risk Management (P. O. Box 4067). \u00a0Volunteer driver and his\/her NAU supervisor must fill out and submit the Volunteer Registration Form to\u00a0Risk Management\u00a0prior to any volunteer activities. \u00a0Refer to\u00a0<a title=\"Volunteer Coverage\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/risk-management\/volunteer-coverage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Volunteer Coverage<\/a>\u00a0section for more information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Uninsured \/ Under-Insured Motorist Coverage:<\/strong>\u00a0State Risk Management does not provide uninsured or under-insured motorist coverage.\u00a0 A University employee will not receive compensation from the State beyond that provided by State Workers\u2019 Compensation statutes when the responsible party is uninsured or under-insured.\u00a0 If the responsible party in a vehicle accident is uninsured or under-insured, injured passengers riding in the State vehicle have no liability coverage available from the State.\u00a0 If a University employee is driving a personal vehicle and is transporting individual(s) that are not University employees, no under-insured or uninsured motorist coverage would be available on a secondary basis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Transporting Family and Friends:<\/strong>\u00a0The University employee shall not transport non-University passengers (for example family, friends, individuals not affiliated with NAU), which may jeopardize the employee\u2019s liability coverage through State Risk Management.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Van Training:<\/strong>\u00a0 If you are the authorized University driver of a 9 to 12 passenger van, you must be NAU van certified.\u00a0 For more information about van training and certification please visit University Transit Services <a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/university-transit-services\/van-training\/\">Van Training<\/a> site.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Windshield Damage:<\/strong>\u00a0State Risk Management covers damage to windshields and windows on all University-owned vehicles.\u00a0 If the damage occurs on campus and is criminal or vandalism, contact University Police Dispatch at <a href=\"tel:9285233611\">928-523-3611<\/a> to file a police report.\u00a0 If the damage is weather related (caused by a road rock, etc.) fill out the online <a title=\"Damage Report\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/risk-management\/damage-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Damage Report<\/a>\u00a0to generate a claim.\u00a0 In the case of auto glass, the State will cover losses under the $100 minimum amount for a claim.\u00a0 The State of Arizona contracts with SAFELITE FULFILLMENT, INC. for all auto glass repairs to State (University) vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>For more information on University-Owned Vehicles, contact Risk Management at <a href=\"tel:9285234557\">(928) 523-4557<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--script class=\"ektron-script\"&gt;
