Purpose
On occasion, faculty and staff identify critical limitations to their research that exceed their own financial capacity to address. The Research Infrastructure Support program provides financial assistance to investigators to defray the cost of maintenance and repair of essential research infrastructure and instrumentation.

Award information
Expenses up to $10,000 per request may be supported through this effort, with Dean level approval, however available funds for this program are limited. While infrastructure support requests that exceed $10,000 may be considered, a strong justification is required and applicants are encouraged to identify matching contributions which further defray the cost.
Each college will have a portion of program funds allocated for use within their units. Support requests are received and overseen by the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) but the decision to award funds from these allocations are made in consultation with the relevant Deans office. Submissions to this program will no longer be accepted after depletion of the allocation of funds.
Examples of allowable requests:
- Emergency repair of critical research instrumentation
- Costs of routine maintenance of critical research instrumentation
- Minor modifications or renovations to existing research space
- Replacement of auxiliary equipment necessary for research in the unit
- Defraying of costs associated with manufacturer maintenance agreements for research instrumentation may be considered with appropriate justification
- Minor facility repairs or upgrades
- Funds for the purchase of software
This program is unable to fund:
- Faculty or staff salaries
- Costs of travel
- General purpose computers, tablets or other electronic devices
- Costs associated with establishing maintenance contracts for instruments that are not currently covered
