These are centrally administered and negotiated by the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Subrecipient vs. vendor determination<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Per federal Uniform Guidance regulations, NAU must determine whether an outside entity acts as a subrecipient (collaborates to carry out a portion of the project) or a contractor\/vendor (provides goods\/services ancillary to the project). PIs can use the <a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/research\/proposal-award-management\/proposal-development\/preproposal-considerations\/subcontractor-vs-vendor-determination\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"4380\">subcontractor vs. vendor determination<\/a> to make this distinction during the proposal stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Requesting and issuing a subaward<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your proposal includes a subrecipient, or if you need to add one after an award is secured, specific documentation is required. The collaborating organization must fill out the <a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/349\/2026\/07\/NAU-subrecipient-commitment-form-4.5.pdf\">subrecipient commitment form<\/a> to provide information on their business processes, scope of work, and budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Policy and risk analysis<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All subawards made under federal grants or contracts are governed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/university-policy-library\/subrecipient-monitoring\/\">NAU Policy on Subrecipient Monitoring<\/a>.
