At NAU, this includes identifying research with commercial potential, protecting intellectual property, working with industry partners, licensing technology, and managing licenses. Faculty, staff, and students gain experience in patent law, commercialization, and economic development through participation in the technology transfer process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"benefits\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Benefits of technology transfer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The transfer of intellectual property (IP) from the university to industry allows research results to be developed into products and services that can be used by the public. When technologies are licensed, revenue is returned to the university and shared with the inventors.
