The method includes real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) assays and oligonucleotides used as primers and probes, providing a highly sensitive, specific assay system for rapidly                        <div class=\"text\">\n                                                        <p>Coccidioidomycosis, also known as valley Fever, is caused by infection with fungal gents,\u00a0<em>Coccidioides immitis\u00a0<\/em>or<em>\u00a0Coccidioides posadasii.<\/em>\u00a0Valley fever infection rates have increased with the influx of immunologically na\u00efve individuals into the southwestern United States. The infected individuals who return home are more likely to escape or confound diagnosis in nonendemic regions.<\/p>\n<p>While real-time PCR-based assays have been developed, these assays do not accurately detect or quantify\u00a0<em>Coccidioides\u00a0<\/em>organisms in an infection.
