This transitional support is intended to help principal investigators maintain continuity of ongoing, externally sponsored animal research while the increased costs are incorporated into future proposal budgets or approved sponsor rebudgeting actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This opportunity is&nbsp;<strong>temporary and limited in duration<\/strong>&nbsp;and is designed to support existing, active awards that were funded under the previous per diem rate structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">General Rules for Intramural Funding Opportunities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This program is subject to overarching rules and guidelines in place for all intramural programs. A summary of these rules may be found under the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/research\/research-resources-opportunities\/impact-opportunities\/intramural-funding\/intramural-terms-conditions\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"2001\">General Rules for Intramural Funding Opportunities<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\t\t<script src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/nau-marketing-2021\/js\/accordion.js\"><\/script>\n\n\t\t<div class=\"accordion accordion-flush my-5\">\n\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"collapse-Purpose1-header\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapse-Purpose1\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse-Purpose1\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\tPurpose\t\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<div id=\"collapse-Purpose1\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse \" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"collapse-Purpose1-header\" style=\"\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Effective July 1, 2026, NAU will implement updated animal care per diem and service rates based on a comprehensive rate study conducted using the NIH Cost Analysis and Rate Setting Manual methodology. These adjustments are necessary to ensure the long-term sustainability, regulatory compliance, and accreditation of NAU\u2019s animal care and use program.<\/p>\n<p>OVPR recognizes that investigators with\u00a0currently funded, ongoing studies\u00a0may face challenges absorbing these increased costs mid-award. The purpose of this bridge funding is to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mitigate short-term financial impacts on active animal research projects<\/li>\n<li>Prevent disruptions to ongoing, sponsor-funded studies<\/li>\n<li>Provide investigators time to transition increased animal care costs onto sponsored project budgets through rebudgeting, renewal, or new proposal submissions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"collapse-Eligibility2-header\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapse-Eligibility2\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse-Eligibility2\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\tEligibility\t\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<div id=\"collapse-Eligibility2\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse \" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"collapse-Eligibility2-header\" style=\"\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Projects must meet\u00a0<strong>all<\/strong>\u00a0of the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"x_elementToProof\" role=\"presentation\" data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Be an\u00a0<b>active\u00a0<\/b>project that was proposed prior to March 6, 2026 under the previous per diem rates<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_elementToProof\" role=\"presentation\" data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Involve\u00a0<strong><span role=\"presentation\">vertebrate animal research<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0subject to NAU\u2019s animal care per diem and\/or space rental charges<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_elementToProof\" role=\"presentation\" data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Be in\u00a0<strong><span role=\"presentation\">good standing<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0with IACUC, OVPR, and Sponsored Projects Services<\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\"><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Projects that were submitted after March 6, 2026 are\u00a0<strong>not eligible<\/strong>, as investigators are expected to budget the updated rates in all new proposals.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"accordion-header\" aria-labelledby=\"collapse-Available-funding-and-duration3-header\" style=\"\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n<li>Bridge funding is provided on a\u00a0<strong>limited, temporary basis<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Support is intended to offset\u00a0<strong>only the incremental increase<\/strong>\u00a0in animal per diem and space rental costs<\/li>\n<li>Funding will generally be limited to a\u00a0<strong>defined transition period<\/strong>\u00a0(e.g., up to one fiscal year), subject to availability and demand<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) reserves the right to prorate awards or limit support based on overall institutional need and available resources.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<div and\/or space rental costs<\/strong>\u00a0resulting from the July 1, 2026 rate changes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Bridge funds\u00a0<strong>may not<\/strong>\u00a0be used for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Personnel, supplies, or equipment<\/li>\n<li>New animal protocol activities<\/li>\n<li>Technical service fees unrelated to per diem increases<\/li>\n<li>Costs that can reasonably be rebudgeted or charged to the existing sponsored project<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"accordion-header\" rates<\/strong>\u00a0into all future proposal submissions and renewals<\/li>\n<li>Use bridge funding strictly as\u00a0<strong>temporary transitional support<\/strong>, not as a long-term subsidy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"accordion-header\" you had originally budgeted to cover animal husbandry and\/or space rental in FY27<\/li>\n<li>List the anticipated total\u00a0additional FY27 costs that each project\/protocol will need to absorb to
