A. Franke College of Business. Faculty members who are both (1) NAU regular employees (i.e. benefit eligible) and (2) eligible to serve as Principal Investigators\/Project Directors on extramural grants (as per the NAU PI Eligibility policy) may serve as PI or co-PI on SCA proposals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Academic professionals are eligible to apply to the SCA program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Regents\u2019 Professors are not eligible to apply to this program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No more than one SCA grant may be awarded to a faculty member in a 24-month period (as PI or co-PI).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>SCA program reviewers are ineligible to serve as PIs or co-PIs on submissions during the window of their committee service.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-fe48e5de wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/349\/2026\/05\/SCA-Evaluation-Rubric.pdf\" style=\"border-radius:30px\">View SCA Evaluation Rubric<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\t\t<script src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/nau-marketing-2021\/js\/accordion.js\"><\/script>\n\n\t\t<div class=\"accordion accordion-flush my-5\">\n\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"collapse-Funding-detail1-header\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapse-Funding-detail1\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse-Funding-detail1\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\tFunding detail\t\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<div id=\"collapse-Funding-detail1\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse \" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"collapse-Funding-detail1-header\" style=\"\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Award information<\/strong><br \/>\nSCA applicants can request up to $10,000.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Award period<\/strong><br \/>\nSCA awards commence on July 1 and are funded for up to one year. No expenses may be incurred against the SCA funds prior to July 1.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examples of allowable* uses of SCA funds include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Compensation for student assistants (hired as Student Workers) paid hourly wages.<\/li>\n<li>Funding for activities such as travel, gathering of archive resources, interviewing, and creative production activity.<\/li>\n<li>Summer salary for faculty on an academic year contract (SCA grant funds that support summer salary cannot exceed 100% allowed salary if combined with other university funds paid for other activities).\u00a0Please note that the cost of employee related expenses (a.k.a. fringe costs) must be included as part of any salary requests.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>*All expenditures must be in accordance with NAU financial and purchasing policies and guidelines.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The SCA program does not fund:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Projects that fall under the definition of human subjects research but do not have current institutional review board (IRB) certification. IRB certification of proposed work may be pursued in concurrence with SCA applications, but funding to successful proposals will not be released until evidence of IRB approval is provided.<\/li>\n<li>Curriculum development, in which the product of the proposed activity is a curriculum or textbook to be used in classroom activities.<\/li>\n<li>Graduate student assistantships.<\/li>\n<li>Student research projects, theses, or dissertations.<\/li>\n<li>Faculty dissertation work.<\/li>\n<li>Faculty professional development activities.<\/li>\n<li>Travel to conferences or workshops that does not generate a scholarly product.<\/li>\n<li>Buyout of teaching.<\/li>\n<li>Equipment, computers, tablets, or other general purpose electronic devices.<\/li>\n<li>Requests to support activities that will take place during sabbatical leave.<\/li>\n<li>Salaries of non-NAU employees (as co-Investigator, Collaborator, or Consultant).<\/li>\n<li>Proposals that describe seed or pilot projects to enable extramural support from NIH, NSF, or similar funding agencies should apply through the Faculty Support Grants program instead of SCA.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"collapse-Regulatory-assurances-and-compliance2-header\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapse-Regulatory-assurances-and-compliance2\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse-Regulatory-assurances-and-compliance2\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\tRegulatory assurances and compliance\t\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<div id=\"collapse-Regulatory-assurances-and-compliance2\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse \" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"collapse-Regulatory-assurances-and-compliance2-header\" style=\"\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Projects involving the use of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/nau-research\/research-safety-and-compliance\/human-research-protection-program\/\">human subjects<\/a> (<strong>update link)<\/strong> must be reviewed by the institutional review board (IRB) to ensure compliance with federal regulations and with guidelines established in the NAU Faculty Handbook.
