Hanover Research
Hanover Research supports proposal review, revision, editing, and production, as well as funding prospect research.
To request support from Hanover, please submit a Project Request form and Andy Koppisch, Associate Vice President for Research, will review your request and connect you with the NAU representative from Hanover.
Proposal review
2-3 weeks
Review proposal and provide feedback on the following criteria: alignment with funding mechanism, competitiveness, overall grantsmanship. Feedback provided via any combination of: margin comments in the proposal; summary memo; and/or debrief call with reviewer. Typically 1-2 waves of review.
Proposal revision/editing
3-4 weeks
Hanover to assist project team on revising a previously rejected proposal for resubmission, or to provide editing support for a new submission. This level of support includes assessing alignment, competitiveness, and grantsmanship; editing of text for structure, language, and style; embedding questions for the team or prompts for further changes via margin comment; and project calls with the team. Typically 3-5 waves of review.
Proposal support
4-8 weeks
Review proposal and provide feedback on the following criteria: alignment with funding mechanism, competitiveness, overall grantsmanship. Feedback provided via any combination of: margin comments in the proposal; light copyediting recommendations in track changes; summary memo; and/or debrief call with reviewer. Typically 2-3 waves of review.
Proposal production
Varies, typically 10-12 weeks
Hanover to act as primary writer on the proposal, in close collaboration with the project team. Team provides project plan/design, objectives, and needed data/content, and provides feedback on iterative drafts via written comment and team calls. Note that the timeline varies greatly by funder, project readiness, and other factors; early outreach to your Hanover Content Director is essential.
Funding prospect research
4 weeks
Hanover researches suitable funding prospects based on information provided by the PI/team. Research is provided to the PI/team in the form of a Prospecting Report, including profiles of funding targets, guidance on their application processes, and pertinent details about approach strategy. Prospects may include federal, foundation, and corporate funders, and the scope of the search may be restricted as indicated by the PI/team.

Beyond the above support, Hanover can support PIs with consultation calls with grant consultants, research support for proposals, training, and other custom projects.
