The <\/span>Dependent Child Arizona Domicile Affidavit<\/span> is for students 24 and under who are classified as non-resident but have a parent or legal guardian living in Arizona. This affidavit is acceptable for students who have one parent living in Arizona and one living out of state. Even if the student attended an out of state high school, they may qualify under this affidavit if they meet the rest of the requirements.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There is no 12-month requirement for this method; the parent and student need only prove that they made Arizona their primary home before the start of the semester. If the student\u2019s parent or legal guardian permanently relocates to Arizona during the student\u2019s academic career the student can petition for residency whether it is their first semester at NAU or their last.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The student must meet ALL five of these requirements as defined by the Arizona Board of Regents to be considered an Arizona resident for tuition purposes. Those requirements are:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

“Domicile” or “Domiciled”<\/span><\/a> means an individual’s true, fixed, and permanent home and place of habitation. It is the place where the individual lives, intends to remain, and to which the individual intends to return when leaving without intending to establish a new domicile elsewhere.<\/span> <\/span><\/li>\n
Owning property in Arizona does not necessarily qualify someone as an Arizona resident.<\/span> <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

The term <\/span>\u201cresident for tuition purposes\u201d<\/span> differs from other definitions of Arizona residency. You can be a resident for other purposes and not be a resident for tuition purposes.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
“Parent<\/span><\/a>” means the student\u2019s father or mother (including adoptive parent), or if one parent has custody, that parent, or the legal guardian of an unemancipated individual provided there is no evidence indicating that the guardianship was created primarily for the purpose of conferring the classification of resident on the individual.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
“Guardian”<\/span><\/a> means a legal guardian.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
If your parent established domicile in Arizona less than 12 months prior your petition, they will be required to document their moving expenses and provide proof of continuous physical presence in Arizona.<\/li>\n
\u00a0Property ownership in Arizona is not sufficient by itself to show domicile in Arizona. It is not uncommon for a person to own property in Arizona and yet maintain domicile elsewhere.<\/li>\n
