Generative artificial intelligence tools stand out for their ability to create text and other forms of media that appear unique. Generative AI has already shown potential to transform how we teach and work\u2014and is likely to continue doing so in the future. As these technologies evolve, NAU aims to stay informed and engaged in discussions about the applications of AI within the university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Foundations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Our work with these technologies is aligned with larger principles about higher education\u2019s role in preparing for the continued expansion of artificial intelligence capabilities. These principles are articulated in the <em>Higher Education\u2019s Essential Role in Preparing Humanity for the Artificial Intelligence Revolution<\/em> statement issued during the 18<sup>th<\/sup> annual United Nations Internet Governance Forum in October 2023 in Kyoto, Japan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are proud to have joined as signatories for this statement\u2019s initial issue, represented by President Jos\u00e9 Luis Cruz Rivera. We encourage everyone to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elon.edu\/u\/imagining\/event-coverage\/global-igf\/igf-2023\/higher_ed_ai_statement\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.elon.edu\/u\/imagining\/event-coverage\/global-igf\/igf-2023\/higher_ed_ai_statement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">review the complete statement<\/a>, and service,<sup>1<\/sup> a generative AI chatbot approved for use within the university under the guidelines of allowed use. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Microsoft Copilot for the web is free for NAU students, faculty, and staff. To access Copilot, NAU users can navigate to <a href=\"https:\/\/copilot.microsoft.com\">copilot.microsoft.com<\/a> and log in using their NAU credentials. Users may be asked to complete a Duo authentication prompt to access the service. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Copilot &amp; M365 Integration Licensing<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Copilot for Microsoft 365 is an add-on service from Microsoft that brings Copilot&#8217;s functionality directly into your Microsoft 365 applications.
