Prior Learning credit from another institution
Transfer credit for Prior Learning previously awarded by a regionally accredited institution
If another regionally-accredited college or university has already evaluated and awarded credit for prior learning, NAU may consider accepting that credit through the transfer credit process.
The credit can be transferred directly as general elective credit when:
- The awarding institution was accredited at the time the credit was earned.
- The accreditor was recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
- The credit appears on an official transcript.
If the student has reviewed their degree progression with their advisor and would like the courses to be evaluated for direct course equivalencies or department transfer equivalencies, then it is necessary to obtain the syllabi from the institution for faculty review.
Students should submit official transcripts for evaluation transfer of general elective credit. Review for course equivalency or department elective credit requires additional materials and review.
