IAAAI AI curriculum
Artificial intelligence undergraduate certificate
Artificial Intelligence Foundations and Applications undergraduate certificate is a broadly accessible entry point for NAU students across majors, as well as community members, to develop competency in understanding AI and its ethical considerations, and in effective use of a range of AI tools. This core certificate is available beginning Fall 2026 and is comprised of 3 three-credit courses (no math prerequisites).
Artificial intelligence courses
• AI 101 Discovering Artificial Intelligence — foundational AI concepts for students without advanced technical backgrounds.
• AI 120: Questioning Artificial Intelligence — ethical, social, civic, economic, and environmental implications of AI.
• AI 210: Exploring Artificial Intelligence — hands-on work with AI systems, data, and machine-learning models using accessible tools.
Certificate enrollment
Current students can enroll in courses and self-enroll in the certificate using LOUIE or working with an academic advisor to add the plan.
Those who are not enrolled at NAU may also complete the AI Foundations and Applications certificate. If you already have a degree please use this post-baccalaureate application link. If you do not have a degree, please use this certificates application link.
Building discipline specific certificates
The AI Foundations and Applications certificate is intentionally designed to be student-centered, stackable, and institutionally efficient. By providing a durable curricular chassis for AI literacy, the IAAAI’s efforts reduce duplicative course development, lower barriers for academic units, and give students a transcriptable credential aligned with workforce needs. The certificate creates a common core of AI competencies that other academic units can build upon for discipline-specific certificates, majors, or applied pathways.
