How to apply our Master’s program

Admissions timeline

In the Sustainable Communities program at NAU, we are eager to hear from motivated potential students who want to understand societal needs and work toward change. The deadline for fall applications is March 15. However, we typically begin evaluating early admissions in December for the upcoming fall semester, and continue making admissions on a rolling basis through March.

Application process

All materials are to be submitted electronically via NAU’s online application form. While you may apply at any time due to our rolling admissions policy, and some students begin in spring, we highly encourage students to start in the fall semester so that they can bond with their cohort and move through the required courses in order. If you have any questions please contact us and we will help you as much as possible. Required materials include:

  1. A statement of intent that includes a description of your interests, relevant experience, passions, and reasons for why you selected this program. Remember to make a case for why this is the right program for you and how you fit with what we are doing.
  2. Three references (often from a mix of academic and professional referees).
  3. Official transcript of your undergraduate work. These should be sent to the graduate college as described in the online application process. However, you can also send an unofficial transcript to the SUS office as you wait for the official transcripts to arrive.

Please see the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies website for application fee requirements.
