For more information on upcoming and past events, like us at <a title=\"facebook.com\/NAUEthnicStudies\/\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NAUEthnicStudies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">facebook.com\/NAUEthnicStudies\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Annual NAU Ethnic Studies Ted Johnson Lecture Series<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Ethnic Studies Program at NAU offers an annual \u201cTed Johnson Lecture Series\u201d in honor of the university\u2019s first African American professor. Ted Johnson joined the faculty of NAU in 1969 teaching composition, literature and minority literature. Throughout his thirty years on campus, Professor Johnson was very active in civic and political affairs both at NAU and across the state and was a profound and guiding influence on students of all backgrounds. He was involved with many student groups and organizations and was recognized with an Alumni Service Award as well as the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Achievement Award.<\/p>\n<p>The inaugural Ted Johnson Lecture was presented on February 6<sup>th<\/sup>, 2016 by NAU graduate and prominent attorney, Booker T. Evans, Jr. and was titled, \u201cThe Myth of Post-Racial America.\u201d\u00a0 The Ted Johnson lecture series is made possible by generous gifts from supporters and all donations are used exclusively to cover expenses for the series.
