Suspicious packages and mail<\/h2>\n

Mail call! Did you receive something you didn’t expect? Suspicious looking letters, packages, or other received items should not be opened. The item should be isolated, the area cordoned off, and the NAU Police Department should be contacted immediately, dial 911<\/a>.\u00a0The information listed below is offered to assist you in determining if a letter or package that you have received should be considered suspicious. The presence of one or more of these items does not in and of itself mean that a letter or package should be considered suspicious. However, if you notice several of the indicators listed please report the suspicious item IMMEDIATELY<\/u><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

  • the sender’s address is unfamiliar;<\/li>\n
  • it is unexpected;<\/li>\n
  • the appearance of the package received is inconsistent with the material ordered;<\/li>\n
  • it bears a foreign postmark or other foreign markings, is air mail or special delivery;<\/li>\n
  • it bears restrictive markings such as confidential, personal, etc., especially if reception of personal mail is against company policy;<\/li>\n
  • it displays excessive postage;<\/li>\n
  • it displays hand written or poorly typed addresses;<\/li>\n
  • it displays titles but no names, or incorrect titles;<\/li>\n
  • it contains misspellings of common words;<\/li>\n
  • the exterior is stained with oil or other discoloration’s<\/li>\n
  • there is no return address;<\/li>\n
  • the envelope is rigid, lopsided or uneven;<\/li>\n
  • there is excessive securing material such as masking tape, string, etc.; or<\/li>\n
  • there are visual distractions displayed on the exterior.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n
