Micro-Credentials

Online Innovative Educational Initiatives

What are micro-credentials?

Micro-credentials can be offered as non-credit and credit-bearing options. When offered for credit, they typically run between 1 and 12 units of credit and they can be incorporated into a degree program. Courses for micro-credentials are usually referred to as modules and may be offered in any format—competency-based or traditional courses offered on-ground or online.

Employers are seeking individuals with hard and soft skills. Micro-credentials are great learning opportunities to support individuals who need to supplement their education and professional portfolio.

What are digital badges?

Digital badges are a visual representation of successful completion of part or all of a micro-credential and directly tied to skills/competencies. Students can post a digital badge to their social media accounts, resume, employment application, and other professional records.
