Hooper in honor of his dedication to promoting research at NAU, encourages undergraduate students to pursue academic interests outside of their regular coursework by providing funding that will enable them to work on special projects of their own design. \u00a0Since the inception of the HURA program, more than 500 students across all of NAU\u2019s colleges have discovered the benefits of these hands-on learning opportunities in laboratories, studios, libraries, and field sites<\/p>\n<h4>Applications will be accepted February 1 &#8211; March 1 each year.<\/h4>\n<p>Announcements about the 2026-2027 HURA award recipients will be sent the week of April 13.<\/p>\n<h3>Purpose<\/h3>\n<p>The intent of the Hooper Undergraduate Research Award (HURA) is to encourage greater participation of undergraduate students from all disciplines in research, scholarly, and creative activities supervised by a faculty mentor.<\/p>\n<h3>Eligibility<\/h3>\n<p>NAU undergraduates must be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>enrolled as a full-time student in an undergraduate program for the fall and spring semesters of the award year; and<\/li>\n<li>in good academic standing at the time of application and during the period in which the project is funded.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Award<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The maximum award is <strong>$5,000 <\/strong>for 1 or 2 students or <strong>$7,500<\/strong> for 3 or more students.<\/li>\n<li>Compensation for student personnel is <strong>$16.50\/hour<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Applications will be accepted <strong>February 1 &#8211; March 1 each year<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>HURA notifications will be sent to all applicants by the end of the first week of April.<\/li>\n<li>Projects can begin as early as May 10 and end as early as December you are proposing a project that involves human subjects, please be sure to pay particular attention to the IRB special instructions in the RFP.<\/p>\n<p>The student&rsquo;s application portfolio, including the faculty mentor recommendation, is submitted using an <a href=\"https:\/\/hura.secure-platform.com\/a\">online submission portal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1Gec42UIjK7q796qZswbvtwtfaYoHlt6X\/copy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HURA Application Template<\/a> to create a single Word document that includes the project description\/narrative, timeline, and resume(s).<\/li>\n<li>Use the HURA Budget Worksheet&nbsp;to create an Excel document outlining your budget.\n<ul>\n<li>For 1 or 2 students,
