This commitment is upheld in Arizona Board of Regents (“ABOR”) <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/university-policy-library\/tribal-consultation\/\">Policy 1-118<\/a>, which requires good faith consultation with federally recognized Native American tribes regarding proposed research, initiatives, agreements, programs, policies, or other activities that may have foreseeable implications for tribes or their individual members. Grounded in the lands and communities of the Colorado Plateau, AIS prepares students to work alongside Indigenous Nations through coursework and field-based experiences that emphasize sovereignty, sustainability, and relational responsibility. Students engage directly with tribal communities, applying classroom knowledge to real-world contexts while building skills in collaboration, research, and service.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"613\" data-end=\"1182\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Applied Indigenous Studies partners closely with the Office of Native American and Indigenous Advancement (ONAIA) to strengthen pathways for Indigenous student success and community engagement. Through shared programming, student support initiatives, and community-based projects, AIS and ONAIA work together to bridge academic learning with cultural and community-centered experiences. This partnership reflects a collective commitment to uplifting Indigenous voices, supporting student achievement, and advancing NAU’s role as a trusted partner to Indigenous Nations.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<h2>Honoring Roots<\/h2>\n<h3>Supporting and Encouraging Indigenous Students<\/h3>\n<p>The Office of Native American and Indigenous Advancement in conjunction with NAU Marketing, worked together to create logos and graphics that represent ONAIAs Core Values of Relationships, Responsibility, Respect, and Resilience. These logos and graphics are a collective representation of values that are upheld within many different Indigenous communities.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Relationships graphic was inspired by the staple imagery of the four cardinal directions that are considered sacred in Native American cultures. The feathers represent the trust, honor, wisdom, and strength that is necessary in establishing and cultivating relationships.<\/li>\n<li>The Responsibility value is a sun that illustrates responsibility by showing the effect that it has by reaching out with its rays. It also signifies the beginning of a new day as it rises from the east. Both of these express dependability and accountability which are essential parts of responsibility.<\/li>\n<li>The Respect value is represented by a water graphic that uses a droplet shape often utilized in Native American jewelry and other inspired circular designs. Water is used here to visually express the importance of respect and the value of community approval and honor.<\/li>\n<li>The Resilience value is represented as a corn stalk that is found in many Native American images. Corn is a resilient crop which ties directly to the concept of resilience.
