Graduate assistants perform vital teaching, research, and service duties to their program and earn a stipend for their work.<\/p>\n<p>To be awarded a graduate assistantship, students <strong>must be graduate degree-seeking students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.<\/strong>\u00a0\u202fStudents that are conditionally admitted to a graduate program due to a GPA below 3.0 upon admission are <strong>not eligible<\/strong> to receive a graduate assistantship.<\/p>\n<p>All graduate assistants with an appointment of 10 or more hours per week are considered residents for tuition purposes during the term of appointment. The application process for graduate assistant positions is available through the academic program or service unit.<\/p>\n<p>The Fall 2025 Orientation recording is now accessible to current graduate students via their Canvas portal, located within the <a href=\"https:\/\/canvas.nau.edu\/courses\/53415\">Graduate Student &amp; GATW Orientations &amp; Support<\/a> course shell.<\/p>\n<h3>Graduate assistantship benefits<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Full-time (20 hours\/week) graduate assistantships offer:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>100% tuition remission (excluding any university and program fees)\n<ul>\n<li>*For online students, tuition payment is capped at 9 credits per semester. Talk to your GA coordinator to learn if further tuition coverage can be offered departmentally.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0a waiver of the student health insurance premium\n<ul>\n<li>Please visit <a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/campus-health-services\/major-medical-insurance\/\">NAU SHIP<\/a> to explore insurance plan eligibility.<\/li>\n<li>*Online only graduate students are not eligible for the SHIP premium waiver per Campus Health Services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>stipend<\/li>\n<li>The minimum stipends for 20-hour GAs are as follow:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>$15,000 for master level students<\/li>\n<li>$18,000 for doctoral level students<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Part-time (10 hours\/week) offer:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>50% tuition remission\u202f(excluding any university and program fees)<\/li>\n<li>stipend<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left\">Looking for a graduate assistantship position?<\/h2>\n<hr role=\"separator\" class=\"hr--transparent hr--transparent-15px not-in-view\">\n<h3>NAU teaching and research assistantships<\/h3>\n<p>Graduate teaching and research assistantship opportunities at NAU are offered through individual academic units and grant-funded programs. Students are encouraged to utilize the <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.nau.edu\/\">NAU Directory<\/a> to connect with the graduate coordinator or department chair in their specific program area for detailed information on available assistantships. Please note that most assistantship opportunities are posted in early spring for the upcoming fall semester and\/or academic year.<\/p>\n<h3>NAU non-academic or &#8220;at-large&#8221; graduate assistantships<\/h3>\n<p>Non-academic graduate service assistantships are offered through a variety of university-wide offices. These positions include a stipend, with amounts varying based on the hiring office, assigned responsibilities, and the student\u2019s degree level. Most assistantship opportunities are posted in early spring for the upcoming fall semester and\/or academic year.<\/p>\n<p>Following are the Graduate Service Assistantship (GSA) positions open for application:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>There are no positions currently posted for academic year 2026-27.<\/li>\n<li>Please continue checking this page for future postings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is a tuition waiver?<\/h2>\n<p>NAU tuition waivers are scholarships which pay for all or part of a student\u2019s tuition. There is no work requirement for tuition waivers.<\/p>\n<p>To be awarded a tuition waiver, students <strong>must be graduate degree-seeking students in <a href=\"https:\/\/www9.nau.edu\/policies\/Client\/Details\/520?whoIsLooking=Students&amp;pertainsTo=All&amp;sortDirection=Ascending&amp;page=1\">good academic standing<\/a>.<\/strong>\u00a0These awards may be based on academic merit and\/or financial need. They are available to both resident and non-resident graduate students.
