Get Started on the Writing:<\/h3>\n

  • Research the Award and the Sponsor\/Organization. As you begin to write, use \u201ctheir\u201d language.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Read through the Application several times.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Print the Application and highlight the key points in all the prompts.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • For each prompt:<\/span>\n
      \n
    • Storyboard<\/strong>. Use sticky notes on your wall for key words\/phrases for examples that illustrate the answers to the prompts. Move them around to see what story fits best in which prompt.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Free Write<\/strong> your answers to each prompt. Don\u2019t leave any story out. Write more now; Cut down later.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Reverse Outline<\/strong>. Pick out the key points from your Free Writes and create an outline that distills your essay\u2019s \u201dframe\u201d:<\/span>\n

      • Hook. Grab the readers\u2019 attention.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Examples. Specific and relatable.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Closer. Summarize your main point.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
      • Create a Unifying Theme throughout the application that describes you and your proposed project\/study.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n
