Undergraduate and graduate funding for semester/year to study languages and countries critical to U.S. national security including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Middle East.
Undergraduate and graduate students can apply for intensive summer language institutes to study 13 critical need languages, including Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Turkish, and Urdu.
Undergraduates with two years of coursework can complete a summer STEM research internship at top German universities and research institutions through the German Academic Exchange (DAAD). German language is not required.

Funding for undergraduate students who receive Federal Pell Grant funding to participate in study or internships abroad with NAU academic credit. The program supports students who have been traditionally underrepresented in study abroad including students with high financial need, diverse ethnic backgrounds, disabilities, and from underrepresented fields such as the sciences and engineering. Up to $7,500 scholarship and door-opening prestige for current juniors or exceptional sophomores committed to a PhD and a research career in mathematics, natural sciences, technology, or engineering. Must be capable of significant contributions to the field.
International Affairs/Foreign Service:
Underrepresented students, including women and those with financial need, should explore Charles B. Rangel, Thomas R. Pickering, and USAID Donald M. Payne opportunities, including fellowships to fund graduate school preparatory to a U.S. Foreign Service career.
Seniors, recent graduates, graduate students within the first four years past the bachelor’s, and with demonstrated records of leadership and civic commitment, can receive full funding for three years to pursue graduate education at Stanford University, with the goal of developing a new generation of global leaders.
One to three years of study leading to a graduate degree at any UK university. Seniors, graduate students, and recent graduates with 3.7+ GPA are eligible to apply within approximately two years of graduation with a bachelor’s degree.
One year of graduate coursework in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland. Seniors, graduate students, and graduates under the age of 30 with strong records of service and social concern can apply.
The National Science Foundation GRFP offers 3-year graduate research fellowships for graduate study leading to research-based master’s or doctoral degrees in the mathematical, physical, biological, behavioral and social sciences; engineering; the history of science and the philosophy of science; and to research-based phd degrees in science education. Study Abroad Through NAU
$30,000 graduate school funding for juniors with a commitment to a career in public service, including government, nonprofits, advocacy, non-governmental research, educational organizations, public and private schools, uniformed services, etc. Applicants must be “change agents” with an extensive track record of campus, community, government, or political/advocacy involvement.
Up to $7,000 scholarship, 5-day orientation, and great network for sophomores and juniors who intend to pursue careers related to the environment, or for Native American/Alaska Native students who intend to pursue careers in tribal government/public policy issues, or health care.
