According to the survey\u2019s findings, Arizona\u2019s wine industry contributes millions of dollars toward the state\u2019s economy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Paul Jagodzinski<\/strong>, dean of the College of Engineering, Forestry and Natural Sciences, recently was selected as a Fellow of the American Chemical Society. The honor was bestowed upon 213 scientists who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in chemistry and made important contributions to the world\u2019s largest scientific society. He will be inducted at a ceremony on Aug. 29 during the society\u2019s annual meeting in Denver.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Michelle Miller<\/strong>, professor and chair of psychology, published an article titled, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1080\/87567555.2011.580636\">What College Teachers Should Know about Memory: A Perspective from Cognitive Psychology<\/a>,\u201d in the journal\u00a0<em>College Teaching.\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<li>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9907\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9907\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/in-the-spotlight-aug-12-2011\/wynne_sm\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-9907\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9907 \" alt=\"El Mercurio de Santiago\" src=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/wynne_sm.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"436\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2013\/01\/wynne_sm.jpg 250w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2013\/01\/wynne_sm-172x300.jpg 172w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9907\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A recent article in Chile&#8217;s &#8216;El Mercurio de Santiago&#8217; calls J. Judson Wynne, &#8220;The &#8216;man of the caverns.&#8221;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>J. Judson Wynne<\/strong>, a research ecologist for the Colorado Plateau Research Station, was featured in\u00a0<em>El Mercurio de Santiago<\/em>, a national newspaper in Chile. In the article, pictured at right, Wynne discusses the importance of inventory, conservation and management of Chile&#8217;s caves. \u201cCurrently, there are no laws to protect this fragile resource,\u201d he said.<\/li>\n<li><strong><strong>Alan Lew<\/strong><\/strong>, professor and graduate program coordinator in the Department of Geography, Planning and Recreation, recently was named a Fellow of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism. The honor requires two-thirds vote from 75 Fellows of the academy. The organization cited Lew\u2019s long-term contributions to the field of tourism research as a significant factor in his being selected.Lew also was selected by the Fulbright Scholar Program to research in Malaysia in the spring of 2012.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Catherine Propper<\/strong>, professor of biological sciences, contributed to a paper published in the journal\u00a0<em>Bioscience<\/em>\u00a0called, \u201cEmpowering Citizen Scientists: The Strength of Many in Monitoring Biologically Active Environmental Contaminants.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Craig Smith<\/strong>, a doctoral candidate in physical therapy, is presenting an abstract, \u201cInterrater and Intrarater Reliability of the Functional Movement Screen,\u201d at the American Society of Biomechanics annual meeting on Aug. 11 in Long Beach, Calif. Smith\u2019s work is part of a larger study in which he has engaged with faculty members in physical therapy and athletic training.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Carmen Ogden<\/strong>, NAU master&#8217;s student in applied geospatial sciences, is working on a practicum project this summer with the Mancos Water District in southwest rural Colorado.
