{"id":9111,"date":"2008-07-30T09:54:21","date_gmt":"2008-07-30T16:54:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=9111"},"modified":"2013-05-07T14:33:36","modified_gmt":"2013-05-07T21:33:36","slug":"teens-competing-in-envirothon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/teens-competing-in-envirothon\/","title":{"rendered":"Teens competing in Envirothon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than 265 teenagers from 44 states and nine Canadian provinces are at NAU to participate in North America&#8217;s largest high school environmental education competition, the 2008 Canon Envirothon.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the competition, teams\u2014including a contingent from Sinagua High School in Flagstaff\u2014will be tested on their knowledge of soils and land use, aquatic ecology, forestry, wildlife and a current environmental issue.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s topic for the competition is &#8220;Recreational Impacts on Natural Resources.&#8221; Students will analyze long- and short-term environmental, social and economic factors relative to recreational impacts upon natural resources and their management.<\/p>\n<p>As they continue to learn about environmental issues affecting natural resources, participants will have the opportunity to compete for a share of more than $125,000 in educational scholarships, as well as Canon products.<\/p>\n<p>The competition, which runs through Aug. 3, is organized by the National Association of Conservation Districts in the United States, the U.S. Forest Service and the Natural Resource Conservation Service.<\/p>\n<p>For information and updates, visit\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.envirothon.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">www.envirothon.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/teens-competing-in-envirothon\/\">More than 265 teenagers from 44 states and nine Canadian provinces are at NAU to participate in North America&#8217;s largest high school environmental education competition, the 2008 Canon Envirothon.
