The trio wrote the introductory and synthesis chapters and edited chapters by ecological restoration practitioners and scholars from the NAU campus and around the world. Northern Arizona University authors include forestry professors\u00a0<strong>Marty Lee\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Yeon-Su Kim<\/strong>\u00a0and forestry graduate\u00a0<strong>Paul Hancock<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Contributing authors provided research, case studies and personal experiences that help readers better understand the vital importance of linking social and ecological perspectives when developing and implementing an ecological restoration project. Restoration topics included volunteerism, collaboration, politics, economics, eco-cultural restoration and restoration-based education. Case studies in the book span the globe from the\u00a0<em>al Ahwar<\/em>\u00a0marshes of southern Iraq to the urban environs of Toronto to the ponderosa pine forests of northern Arizona.<\/li>\n<li>Northern Arizona University has earned more than a dozen Emmy nominations from the Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.\n<p>NAU-TV producer-photographer\u00a0<strong>Jerry Anderfuren\u00a0<\/strong>received a total of seven nominations for his work on two promotional commercials for NAU. \u201cPower of Possibilities\u201d and \u201cTrue Blue NAU\u201d were nominated for best post-production directing, best lighting and best short-form photography. \u201cPower of Possibilities\u201d also was nominated in the best short-form writing category.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Darryl Jacobsen<\/strong>, who graduated in May with a bachelor\u2019s degree in electronic media and film, received four student nominations, three of which were for his work on a \u201cPepsi Max Advertisement\u201d in the community\/public service, student photography and student editing categories. He also received a nomination for \u201cHikers\u201d in the student editing category.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kyle Anderson<\/strong>, who graduated in May as a dual major in journalism and electronic media and film, received two nominations. His work on \u201cCoconino Amateur Radio Club at the Grand Canyon Marathon\u201d was nominated for best student editing. He and the School of Communication\u2019s\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/northernarizonanews.com\/blog\/2011\/03\/29\/naz-today-show-march-29-2011\/\">NAZ Today<\/a><\/em>\u00a0were nominated in the best student newscast category.<\/p>\n<p>The Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter is a member of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, serving Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming and El Centro, Calif. The 2011 Rocky Mountain Emmy Awards will be announced Oct. 15 at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/8637\/speech\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-8647\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-8647\" alt=\"Book Cover\" src=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/speech.jpg\" width=\"120\" height=\"156\" \/><\/a>New on the bookstore shelves this fall is a textbook by health sciences professors\u00a0<strong>William (Bill) Culbertson\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Dennis Tanner,\u00a0<\/strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kendallhunt.com\/store-product.aspx?id=23080\">The Anatomy and Physiology of Speech and Swallowing<\/a><\/em>. Published by Kendall Hunt, it is intended to provide detailed information on the subject for students building their educational foundations for practice in the field of speech-language pathology.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pam Stephens<\/strong>, associate professor of art education, published an article about recent NAU art graduate and jeweler Matagi Sorensen. The article, &#8220;Responding to Nature Through Art,&#8221; was in the October 2011 edition of\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.davisart.com\/Portal\/SchoolArts\/articles\/10_11-art-teacher-round-table-responding-to-nature-through-art.pdf\">SchoolArts<\/a><\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Julie Kalil Schutten<\/strong>, assistant professor of communication studies, and\u00a0<strong>Richard A. Rogers<\/strong>, professor of communication studies, have had their article, \u201cMagick as an Alternative Symbolic: Enacting Transhuman Dialogs,\u201d published in the fall 2011 issue of\u00a0<em>Environmental Communication: A Journal of Nature and Culture<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lea Parker<\/strong>, professor emeritus in the School of Communication, co-authored an article titled &#8220;Public Participation in Environmental Design Making: A Case Study from Ethiopia,&#8221; which was published in the<em>\u00a0Journal of Environmental Extension.<\/em>Parker&#8217;s co-authors in the environmental communication study are Solomon Andargie, who is with the Ministry of Education in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and Hameed Sulalman in the Environmental Science Program at Addis Ababa University.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/in-the-spotlight-sept-16-2011\/\">Kudos to these faculty, staff and students Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community E-mail your announcements to\u00a0Inside@nau.edu.
