{"id":7897,"date":"2011-09-16T16:12:31","date_gmt":"2011-09-16T23:12:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=7897"},"modified":"2012-12-12T16:18:11","modified_gmt":"2012-12-12T23:18:11","slug":"molly-munger-active-in-community-and-advocate-for-nau-to-retire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/molly-munger-active-in-community-and-advocate-for-nau-to-retire\/","title":{"rendered":"Molly Munger, active in community and advocate for NAU, to retire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After 28 years of service to Northern Arizona University that includes extensive involvement in the Flagstaff community,\u00a0<strong>Molly Munger<\/strong>\u00a0is retiring in October.<\/p>\n<p>As NAU\u2019s director of community relations for most of the past decade, Munger has essentially served dual roles by using her participation on community boards and committees to foster closer ties between Flagstaff and the university.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like to say that my role has helped increase the university\u2019s visibility and importance in the community, and to show how much the university appreciates the community,\u201d Munger said.<\/p>\n<p>Munger announced her retirement Thursday at a community breakfast hosted by NAU at the High Country Conference Center. She started at NAU in 1983 as an office supervisor in Undergraduate Admissions. She eventually became director of Admissions, a post she held until shortly after the arrival of President\u00a0<strong>John Haeger<\/strong>, when the community relations role was launched with the \u201cOne Community\u201d slogan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was fun and exciting to do something that hadn\u2019t been done before,\u201d said Munger, who points with pride to the overall progress of NAU since the 1980s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I first started, the university was looked at as \u2018the little school on the hill.\u2019 Now we\u2019re being recognized for the innovative things we\u2019ve done to advance research, sustainability, increases in enrollment, diversity and an emphasis on global learning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Munger was recognized by the\u00a0<em>Arizona Daily Sun<\/em>\u00a0as its 2007 Citizen of the Year and has been active in the United Way of northern Arizona annual campaign, serving as co-chair with her husband, Gene Munger, for the 2009 campaign. She is currently on the boards of the Flagstaff Medical Center, Capstone Health Plan and Flagstaff Festival of Science.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNAU is fortunate to have benefited from Molly\u2019s dedicated service,\u201d Haeger said. \u201cWe\u2019ll miss her sincere commitment to building strong ties with the community, and we wish her well as she enters this new phase of her life.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/molly-munger-active-in-community-and-advocate-for-nau-to-retire\/\">After 28 years of service to Northern Arizona University that includes extensive involvement in the Flagstaff community,\u00a0Molly Munger\u00a0is retiring in October.
