Angelina Palumbo<\/span><\/b>, director of Education Abroad, takes the lead on fostering relationships with international partners to give all NAU students options to studying abroad, regardless of their major or background. And she\u2019s doing a darned good job: Arizona International Educators (AIE) just recognized her with the Distinguished Contributions to Global Initiatives in Arizona Award! We asked Palumbo a few quick Q\u2019s about this recognition and what it means to her.\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Distinguished Contributions to Global Initiatives in Arizona Award, presented by\u00a0AIE, recognizes individuals, institutions or programs that have\u00a0demonstrated\u00a0outstanding leadership and sustained commitment to advancing global education across the state. The award highlights efforts\u00a0that expand\u00a0international learning opportunities, build meaningful partnerships between Arizona and institutions around the\u00a0world\u00a0and foster deeper cross-cultural understanding among students,\u00a0educators\u00a0and communities. By acknowledging innovative programs, collaborative initiatives and impactful leadership, the award celebrates those whose work strengthens Arizona\u2019s global engagement and truly makes a difference in international education.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What does this recognition mean to you personally and professionally?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

Honestly, I could not do my job as well as I do without my colleagues, both in and out of Education Abroad. The cross-campus collaborations and shared excitement to see NAU students have\u00a0an experience\u00a0abroad make\u00a0all of\u00a0the work I do have value beyond the paycheck. It is an honor to receive the award\u2014an extra cherry on top to celebrate all the amazing work happening in Education Abroad at NAU. While my name is on the award, it really does go to\u00a0everyone on\u00a0my team.\u202f Moving forward, this recognition encourages me to expand partnerships, support inclusive global\u00a0initiatives\u00a0and contribute to projects that create sustainable impact. It also inspires me to mentor others and help broaden access to global opportunities so that more students and communities can\u00a0participate\u00a0in meaningful international collaboration.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u202fHow do you hope this award influences your future work or goals?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u202fI hope this award brings awareness of the importance of learning abroad. It shows that our programming\u00a0is\u00a0high\u00a0impact, beyond the campus\u00a0and\u00a0promotes\u00a0international engagement and global\u00a0problem-solving.\u00a0Ultimately, this\u00a0award serves as a reminder that thoughtful global engagement can drive positive\u00a0change,\u00a0and it strengthens my determination to continue pursuing work that connects people,\u00a0ideas\u00a0and solutions across borders.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
