{"id":7719,"date":"2008-04-09T13:02:57","date_gmt":"2008-04-09T20:02:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=7719"},"modified":"2012-12-18T12:00:50","modified_gmt":"2012-12-18T19:00:50","slug":"nau-experts-to-place-war-requiem-in-context","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/nau-experts-to-place-war-requiem-in-context\/","title":{"rendered":"NAU experts to place &#8216;War Requiem&#8217; in context"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A panel of five NAU College of Arts and Letters scholars will help frame a complex musical masterpiece within a historical and artistic context during an upcoming dinner and discussion, followed by a Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra performance.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Benjamin Britten&#8217;s\u00a0<em>War Requiem<\/em>\u00a0in Context&#8221; will be held from 5-7 p.m. April 11 at Ashurst Auditorium.<\/p>\n<p>Presentations include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An introduction by\u00a0<strong>Edith Copley<\/strong>, director of choral studies at NAU and conductor of FSO&#8217;s\u00a0<em>War Requiem<\/em><\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Aspects of Benjamin Britten&#8217;s Music,&#8221; by\u00a0<strong>Julie Brown<\/strong>, assistant professor of music<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;The Bombing of Coventry and its Cathedral during the &#8216;Blitz&#8217; in the Battle of Britain,&#8221; by\u00a0<strong>David Kitterman<\/strong>, associate professor of history<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Wilfred Owen: Poetry and the &#8216;Pity of War&#8217;,&#8221; by<strong>\u00a0Nancy Paxton<\/strong>, professor of English<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;The Martyred Cathedral(s) of Coventry,&#8221; by\u00a0<strong>Aly Jordan<\/strong>, associate professor of art history<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The orchestra&#8217;s performance begins at 7:30 p.m. at Ardrey Auditorium.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are $25 for the dinner and discussion, and are available through the NAU Central Ticket Office, (928) 523-5661.<\/p>\n<p>Separate tickets are needed for the performance.
