Some of the programs engage with\u00a0Indigenous communities and\u00a0provide volunteer community development opportunities for students\u00a0who not only want to learn about these\u00a0cultures but\u00a0also\u00a0want\u00a0to\u00a0make a difference.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cRecently, we\u00a0expanded our faculty-led programs\u00a0in\u00a0Africa,\u201d Palumbo said. \u201cWe\u00a0have\u00a0an\u00a0NAU-led\u00a0program\u00a0about the genocide in\u00a0Rwanda; a\u00a0program offered in South Africa\u00a0on\u00a0understanding Apartheid\u00a0and\u00a0another\u00a0one that specializes in\u00a0global\u00a0health in Malawi. Such is the case of\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/edabroad.nau.edu\/index.cfm?FuseAction=Programs.ViewProgramAngular&amp;id=11396\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">NAU in Italy: Integrated Curriculum and Place-Based Education<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0led\u00a0by\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Brian\u00a0Stone<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0from the College of Education, which has been offered for\u00a0more than10 years. Another popular program\u00a0is\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/edabroad.nau.edu\/index.cfm?FuseAction=Programs.ViewProgramAngular&amp;id=11156\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">NAU in Belize: Tropical Ecology Field School<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0led by\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Jut Wynne<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0from the Department of Biological Sciences. This program\u00a0focuses\u00a0on tropical ecology, wildlife\u00a0conservation\u00a0and management in the Maya Forest Corridor of Central Belize.\u00a0<\/span><span abroad for a semester or\u00a0for a\u00a0full academic\u00a0year\u00a0because they\u00a0have to\u00a0work to help\u00a0pay\u00a0for school or maybe\u00a0because\u00a0they&#8217;re a little bit unsure\u00a0and don\u2019t want to\u00a0make such a big commitment, can take advantage of these\u00a0shorter opportunities.\u00a0In these programs, students interact with other students and faculty\u00a0and for the most part, all\u00a0activities are planned.\u00a0This could feel safer and more familiar to them.\u201d<\/span><span
