She leads the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/nacp\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Partnership for Native American Cancer Prevention<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"> and directs the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/149\/2022-NAU-Bridges-Application-T34-Updated-Version-01.12.22.pdf\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Bridges to Baccalaureate<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"> program, both of which aim to increase representation and success of Indigenous students in science.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cIt is an honor to be recognized by the SACNAS organization, which values excellence in science alongside respect for culture and inclusiveness,\u201d Ingram said. \u201cI\u2019ve been a \u2018SACNISTA\u2019 since coming to NAU in 2002, and this award is deeply meaningful to me.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The SACNAS Distinguished Scientist Award is given annually to a researcher with at least 10 years of experience as a principal investigator and a national record of contributions to STEM education and research. Since its inception in 1997, SACNAS has honored more than 135 scientists, educators and program directors who embody the organization\u2019s mission to advance Chicano\/Hispanic and Native American scientists.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Ingram was nominated by NAU chemistry colleague <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Naomi Lee<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">, then selected from a competitive pool of candidates by a committee of her peers.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cWe are very happy to have Jani Ingram as our Distinguished Scientist this year for SACNAS,\u201d said Casey Dorr, chair of the SACNAS Distinguished Awards Task Force. \u201cShe has a strong history of publication, grant funding and mentorship, and she has played major roles in advancing Chicanos and Native Americans in science. She is a role model for our SACNAS members nationwide and is well deserving of this honor.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Before joining NAU\u2019s faculty in 2002, Ingram worked as a staff scientist at the Idaho National Laboratory. She\u2019s previously been honored with the American Chemical Society\u2019s Award for Encouraging Disadvantaged Students into Careers in the Chemical Sciences and the American Indian Science and Engineering Society\u2019s Ely S.
