From readings, panels and book discussions to performances, workshops and hands-on activities, there is wide range of cultural and fun events to choose from all around Flagstaff, starting with the Welcome Back Reading event featuring local author Will Cordeiro, followed by a reading series hosted by NAU\u2019s creative writing MFA program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a href=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/BookScavenger-event.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-74380 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/BookScavenger-event-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Two people reading a piece of paper at the NOAZBF 2024\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2025\/03\/BookScavenger-event-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2025\/03\/BookScavenger-event-1024x769.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2025\/03\/BookScavenger-event-768x577.jpg 768w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2025\/03\/BookScavenger-event-1536x1153.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2025\/03\/BookScavenger-event-2048x1538.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\u201cThe Northern Arizona Book Festival coordinates programming that reflects the literary interests and cultural issues that define life in the Colorado Plateau region,\u201d said <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Margarita Cruz<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, administrative service assistant in the Department of Sociology and president of NOAZBF. \u201cThis festival combines traditional and non-traditional modes so participants can discover new entry points into the literary arts.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">NOAZBF developed four critical areas of emphasis for this year\u2019s festival: the Indigenous Writers Symposium that focuses on Native sovereignty, applied Indigenous studies and language preservation efforts, among other themes; the Young Reader\u2019s Fest intended to make literature fun, relevant and accessible for youth; the Environmental Humanities Series, which examines the intersection of climate science with humanities disciplines; and Off the Page events, which will bring literature to vivid life for audiences through theater, dance, multimedia, performance and music.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a href=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Students-Reading.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-74383\" src=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Students-Reading-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Students reading\" width=\"311\" height=\"233\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2025\/03\/Students-Reading-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2025\/03\/Students-Reading-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2025\/03\/Students-Reading-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2025\/03\/Students-Reading-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2025\/03\/Students-Reading-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 311px) 100vw, 311px\" \/><\/a>\u201cI think if you don\u2019t make it to any other event, you should absolutely stop by Heritage Square on Saturday, April 12, between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. to check out our book fair,\u201d Cruz said. \u201cAll of the presses and organizations that come out have amazing, smart people who are so incredibly generous to authors and readers at all stages. Poetry, fiction, nonfiction and slam performances will be rolling every hour in the square, so there\u2019s a chance you\u2019ll run into a reading or event that will catch your ear!\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">NOAZBF has celebrated writing and Flagstaff in collaboration with many NAU alumni, faculty and authors since 1997. This year\u2019s host authors lineup includes Kinsale Drake, whose book \u201cThe Sky Was Once a Dark Blanket\u201d won the 2023 National Poetry Series; m.s.
