A portion of book sales will be donated to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.for.nau.edu\/cms\/content\/view\/784\/1203\">Wildlife Habitat Relationships Scholarship Fund<\/a>\u00a0he established for students of NAU\u2019s School of Forestry.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Matthew Hurteau<\/strong>, visiting assistant professor and graduate coordinator for the School of Earth Sciences and Environmental Sustainability, coauthored \u201cShort- and Long-term Effects of Fire on Carbon in US Dry Temperate Forest Systems,\u201d a study that was published in this month\u2019s issue of\u00a0<em>Bioscience<\/em>, the journal of the American Institute of Biological Sciences.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mikhael Star<\/strong>, project lead for ePlanning, and\u00a0<strong>Lanita Collette<\/strong>, assistant director of Administrative Computing, discussed NAU\u2019s use of the Grade Performance Status system in a recent issue of\u00a0<em>Educause Quarterly<\/em>\u00a0magazine. The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.educause.edu\/EDUCAUSE+Quarterly\/EDUCAUSEQuarterlyMagazineVolum\/GPSShapingStudentSuccessOneCon\/219119\">article<\/a>, titled \u201cGPS: Shaping Student Success One Conversation at a Time,\u201d detailed the development, university-wide expansion and initial results of the deployment of NAU\u2019s academic early alert system.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Harvey Charles<\/strong>, vice provost for International Education,\u00a0<strong>Karen Pugliesi<\/strong>, vice provost for Academic Affairs, and\u00a0<strong>Liz Grobsmith<\/strong>, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, conducted a session at the 97th\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aacu.org\/press_room\/press_releases\/2011\/finalam.cfm\">annual meeting<\/a>\u00a0of the Association of American Colleges and Universities in San Francisco, held Jan. 26-29. \u00a0Their session was titled, \u201cTransforming Global Learning into a Universal Requirement: \u00a0Embedding Global Learning in General Education, Major Programs and Across the Disciplines.\u201d The conference theme was \u201cGlobal Positioning: \u00a0Essential Learning, Student Success and the Currency of U.S. Degrees,\u201d and with nearly 2,000 participants, it was the largest conference in the association\u2019s history.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/in-the-spotlight-feb-4-2011\/\">Kudos to these faculty, staff and students Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?
